As with all outdoor surfaces, you do need to keep your composite deck clean (after all, you need to clean you windows). It doesn’t require painting, varnishing or staining which is a big plus.
You will need to give your deck a quick clean from season to season and a sweep if you have trees or deciduous shrubs nearby – the foliage will rot down on the decking and leave a residue as it would with any patio or terrace.
There are cleaning liquids that may be readily purchased for this purpose. Generally, the cleaner is diluted with water, applied to your deck and then gently scrubbed (use an outdoor sweeping brush or similar). Rinse down with water afterwards and your deck will be ready to go!
The cleaners are often alkaline based and great for removing organic and inorganic contaminants.
Another quick method to clean your composite deck is to use a jet washer. This method is nowhere near as intensive as with wooden decking – composite decking is far more resistant to mould. Some suppliers or manufacturers suggest that jet washing is not required, however, on a non-agressive setting, jet washing is quick cleaning option.
Of course you won’t need to worry about sanding, staining, painting or varnishing – composite decking doesn’t require this intensive maintenance.
